Goa , the land of happy people as they call it and we totally agree with it. Don’t we..? For people who don’t know much about Goa , let me give you a brief description about this amazing state and it’s food. Because , without food , Goa will be incomplete to describe. Goa , is a state in west India within the coastal region known as the Konkan. The capital of the state is Panaji and Vasco da Gama is the largest city. Goa, being in the tropical zone and near the Arabian Sea, has a hot and humid climate for most of the year and hence experience a very short winter season between mid december and february.
And now coming onto the main topic which is food and trust me I just love goan cuisine. Goa is located in a tropical climate, which means that spices and flavors are intense and the food here is considered incomplete without fish. Goan cuisine is mainly seafood oriented and the people just love rice and fish. And some of the famous goan delicacies are Balchao , Cafreal , Xacuti , Vindaloo etc. You will see that use of coconut and coconut oil is majorly used in Goan cooking along with other spices and hence this cuisine is mostly influenced by the portuguese cuisine. So after this short description about Goa and it’s food , let me take you to Peninsular Kitchen which is located in the well known Ambience Mall , Vasant Kunj and where the Goan Food Festival is ongoing till 24th December 2016 and they are only serving the food which comes under the Goan Cuisine.
Talking about Peninsular Kitchen , a beautifully designed place which is serving lip smacking coastal food and is certainly my one of the favorite places to enjoy the coastal food and sea food. The interiors and overall ambiance are very elegant and cozy. This place is a perfect option for family dinners in which small kids are also there. So , talking about the special menu which they have curated for the festival is really amazing and have a lot of variety both for vegetarians and non – vegetarians. The dishes which really made me tempt to try are Prawn Rissoles , Chilli Prawns , Butter Pepper Garlic Prawns , Golden Fried Prawns , Fish Fingers , Chilli Cauliflower , Prawn Pulao , Pork Vindaloo & Goan Fish Curry. All the dishes which I tried were totally lip smacking and sheer delicious but the ones I loved the most are Prawn Rissoles because of it’s overall texture and taste , Butter Pepper Garlic Prawns because of it’s buttery flavor mixed with a mild peppery flavor, Pork Vindaloo because of the spices. Yes this dish is amazingly spicy and I loved the overall flavor of the pork & Goan Fish Curry because of it’s richness and it was very well balanced with the spices and the fish was very soft. And in the dessert , I had the ultimate caramel custard which helped in reducing the heat of pork vindaloo and the taste was pretty decent and very well balanced in sweetness.
